In the midst of pervasive rumours indicating a strained relationship between superstars Ram Charan and NT Rama Rao Jr, the former has hinted that these speculations are unfounded.

Reports have said there has been a fallout between the duo who captured everyone’s imagination with their heartening performances in SS Rajamouli’s epic blockbuster RRR. However, neither of them have publicly addressed it.

Putting an end to the speculation, Charan attended a function organised by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) as part of the centenary celebrations of former united Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR), in Hyderabad on Saturday. Praising the veteran actor for shaping the Telugu film business as it is today, Charan said: “Though people are talking about South Indian cinema and Telugu cinema becoming popular nowadays, the legendary NTR did it and showed it to the world a long time ago. We all remember him forever.”

Jr NTR, however, did not attend the event, fueling rumours of his alleged estrangement from the party and certain members of the Nandamuri and Nara families.

On the day, which marked the 40th birthday of his RRR co-star, Charan took to social media to shower love on Jr NTR and wish his “dear brother” a great year ahead. “Wishing my dear brother @tarak9999 a very very happy birthday ❤️ Have a great year ahead. Lots of love,” Charan wrote on Twitter.

Jr NTR responded to Charan’s wishes with: “Thank you so much brother.”

Earlier this year, Charan had openly addressed the rumoured decades-long feud between their families. Speaking to David Poland on an episode of DP/30 series, Charan said in response to a query about his equation with Tarak, “A sense of brotherhood and camaraderie is there, but obviously, there is a healthy competition. I have seven actors in my family, and once the party is over, once the festival is over, even my cousins and I are competitive. Obviously, with NTR also, there is a sense of competition. Our families have been known as arch-rivals in the film industry for 20-30 years. His grandfather, and my father… It was like we were arch-rival families…”

“This was the most intriguing part for people in India, that Rajamouli got these two buddies (for RRR), who are from these families… We’ve known each other for 15-odd years. And there was so much negative press around the two families. There’s only one way to go, which is to make and create a better bond from there. It couldn’t get more negative for both the families, so we both decided to turn it around because we were both hearing that,” Charan added.

Last year, during a conversation with Rana Daggubati, Jr NTR also opened up about their friendship and said: “We have been good friends, and there is nothing to hide. But RRR has brought us together and helped us understand our comfort level as actors. Charan has a crazy intensity in him. He is not an open book, and you want to explore him. He is very close. I might call him an introvert. You just need to break into that comfort zone or that shield that he has. And when you get in, then you understand this guy. I was one of the very few people who could break that (shield). I know who he is as a person.”
