Pawan Kalyan fans are currently overjoyed as their beloved Power Star is poised to return to the silver screen after over a year. Despite his previous appearance in Saagar K Chandra’s Bheemla Nayak in 2022 creating quite a buzz, PK had made a deliberate choice not to do back-to-back films and instead devoted his focus to his political pursuits. Now, his Telugu movie Bro, helmed by Samuthirakani and featuring Pawan and his nephew Sai Dharam Tej in the lead roles, is all set to hit theatres worldwide on July 28.

PK, known for his no-holds-barred speeches, recently expressed his views on the reports regarding the Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) issuing fresh guidelines for Kollywood as per which only Tamil artists can be engaged in Tamil films.

Mentioning that the Telugu film industry was providing livelihood to many and embracing talent from all regions, Pawan, while taking part in Bro’s pre-release event, said: “Similarly, the Tamil film industry should also be inclusive. If it remains restricted to only Tamilians, its growth will be limited.”

“The Telugu industry thrives because it encourages talents from other regions, like Sujith Vaassudev from Malayalam, Urvashi Rautela from the North, and Neeta Lulla whose family migrated to India from Pakistan during the Partition (all these technicians worked on Bro). A film becomes exceptional when it combines talents from various languages. Restricting it to our language and people will cause the industry to shrink. I urge the influential members of the Tamil industry to abandon such thinking and create globally renowned films like RRR,” he added.

Earlier this week, there were reports indicating that the FEFSI had implemented fresh regulations for the Kollywood industry. These guidelines reportedly specified that only Tamil artists would be permitted to work in Tamil films. Additionally, one of the rules reportedly stated that filming should be restricted to Tamil Nadu, and shooting in other states or foreign countries would only be allowed when absolutely essential.

Meanwhile, FEFSI general secretary Swaminathan rejected the reports later, dismissing them as “rumours that are baseless and unfounded”. “We can’t ban actors from working in Tamil films since our organisation has no such powers,” Deccan Chronicle quoted Swaminathan as saying.

During the pre-release event, Pawan Kalyan expressed admiration for director Samuthirakani’s dedication to understanding Telugu for Bro. Stating that he became a fan of Samuthirakani during the shoot, PK, as reported by OTTPlay, said: “We come across many people who don’t know to read, write or speak Telugu in our states, mix it with English and don’t do a good job with either of the languages. Samuthirakani is special because he comes from Tamil Nadu and is alien to the culture. One day, I was shocked to see him reading the script in Telugu. He learnt to read Telugu for a year just for the film alone. I was truly spellbound and inspired.”

In gratitude, the “Power Star” vowed to deliver a speech in Tamil in TN and also recite Thirukkural soon.

Recalling the first time when Sai Dharam Tej expressed his interest to act, Pawan mentioned that he refrained from influencing his nephew either positively or negatively. “I didn’t want to judge/put his abilities to test and sent him to an acting school,” he said adding that no one from their family recommended Sai Dharam Tej to any directors as they wanted him to carve his own path in the industry.

Sai Dharam Tej is the son of Vijaya Durga, who happens to be the sister of Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan.

Pawan also became emotional while recalling the trauma that the family went through when Tej met with a serious road accident and was in a coma. PK expressed special gratitude towards the person (Abdul Farhan) who rescued Sai at the scene and timely called for an ambulance. “We can never forget his efforts.”

“While there were concerns about his recovery, diction and agility, it was Trivikram who insisted on Sai’s presence in Bro. Trivikram was so impressed by his performance in Republic and wanted to congratulate him but he was battling for life in a hospital,” Pawan recounted.

Starring Priya Prakash Varrier, Ketika Sharma, Brahmanandam, Subbaraju and Vennela Kishore in pivotal roles aside from PK and Sai Dharam Tej, Bro’s screenplay has been written by Trivikram Srinivas and produced jointly by People Media Factory and Zee Studios.
