New clip of Kalki 2898 AD team from San Diego Comic-Con out

Kalki 2898 AD was the first Indian film to get showcased at San Diego Comic-Con, one of the most popular comic book and cultural conventions in the world. A glimpse of Prabhas’ movie was first released there in the presence of international audiences. Kamal Haasan, who recently joined the cast of the film, was also part of the team at the event. Recently, a new clip was shared by the official Twitter handle of the movie, which features some glimpses of the journey and build-up to the big event.

Looks like the makers of the film had gone all out in putting up a show in San Diego. The video features men in futuristic costumes from the movie parading through the streets of San Diego. There’s even an instance in the clip where these men of Kalki surround Baby Yoda from The Mandalorian and pose with him. The makers had also arranged for a dance performance ahead of the launch. Chandi mela and Indian classical dance were performed at the event. Women clad in white saree carrying lamps lit up the event.

Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin of Mahanati fame, is touted to be a ‘history-making Indian sci-fi film’. The first glimpse of the movie hinted that the big-budget project blends Hindu mythology and tropes of dystopian science fiction. The title of the film itself refers to the Hindu prophecy that claims that the tenth reincarnation of Lord Vishnu, Kalki, will come to save earth after the devastating Kali Yugam. The prophecy perfectly fits in with the ‘chosen one’ trope, which is often the heart of such high-concept sci-fi films like Dune, Star Wars, and the Matrix film series.

Other than Prabhas and Kamal Haasan, the film also stars Deepika Padukone, Pasupathy, and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead roles. Santhosh Narayanan has composed the music for the movie, which is expected to be released next year.
