Nag Ashwin on Amitabh Bachchan and Kalki 2898 ADNag Ashwin recalls Amitabh Bachchan's injury during shoot of Prabhas' Kalki 2898 AD.

It is interesting how the legendary Amitabh Bachchan’s only onscreen appearances in 2024 were in Kalki 2898 AD (Telugu) and Vettaiyan (Tamil). One had him exhibit his action avatar, and one had him exude his statesman-like qualities. In a recent interview with journalist Prema, Kalki 2898 AD director Nag Ashwin opened up about how the veteran came onboard this intense action film. “I think Bachchan sir is still a child in his heart. He loves action films. In fact, he is the OG action hero of our country, right? I think just the idea of the action excited him a little,” said the filmmaker.

Sharing that the world of Kalki 2898 AD was a clincher too, Ashwin said that it was Bachchan’s faith in the writing and the vision that made him join the universe. “He knew it was challenging, and something special. He took that leap of faith. In fact, he was one of the first people we approached for Kalki. I think both Prabhas and him were approached around the same time,” said the director, who also opened up about making the veteran actor be a part of action-heavy sequences.

But yeah, Bachchan sir knew what it takes.” Although there were body doubles in play, and the safety procedures were followed, Ashwin said that the Paa actor did what was required because of his love for action films.
