Putting an end to all rumours, renowned playback singer Kalpana Raghavendar has stepped forward to clarify that her recent health scare was due to an accidental overdose of sleeping pills, refuting speculation that she attempted suicide over familial discord. In a selfie video, Kalpana elaborated on the unfortunate incident while emphasising that her family life is harmonious.

“At the age of 45, I am pursuing a PhD and an LLB. All of this has been possible due to my husband’s encouragement. At the same time, I am constantly updating myself to keep up with the evolving music industry and also doing different kinds of concerts. However, the pressure and stress from these commitments have affected my sleep and I have been struggling with insomnia for years. Following a consultation with a doctor, I was prescribed medication for insomnia. On that particular day, I happened to take a higher dosage of the medicine and lost consciousness, eventually leading to my hospitalisation,” she explained.

Reaffirming that there are no differences between her and her husband, Kalpana also expressed gratitude to her fans and well-wishers for their love and support. Previously, she told IANS, “I took eight tablets but was still unable to sleep. I took 10 more, and I fell unconscious. I don’t know what happened after that.”

Kalpana Raghavendar was found unconscious in her flat by members of her apartment association, who were alerted by her husband after he was unable to reach her by phone. Initially, reports suggested that she had attempted suicide due to family issues. A report filed by the KPHB police also indicated that Kalpana had an argument with her family, particularly her daughter, over her education choices. Allegedly, Kalpana wanted her daughter to move to Hyderabad for further studies, which she opposed. However, Kalpana’s daughter also later dismissed claims of issues between them, affirming that her mother’s condition was not the result of a suicide attempt.
