Kalki 2898 AD box office collection day 18: Prabhas’s film set to overtake worldwide gross of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, is 7th biggest earner of all time

Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Prabhas-starrer Kalki 2898 AD continues to dominate the box office into its third week. Despite a brief slump in weekday collections, the film bounced back over the weekend with a remarkable 139 percent surge on Saturday, bringing in Rs 14.35 crore, followed by a 14 percent rise on Sunday with Rs 16.45 crore domestically. This has propelled Kalki 2898 AD’s total domestic earnings to an impressive Rs 580.15 crore. The Telugu version remains the most lucrative, grossing Rs 265.75 crore to date, closely followed by the Hindi version at Rs 254.6 crore. The Tamil version has earned Rs 33.15 crore, while the Kannada and Malayalam versions stand at Rs 5 crore and Rs 21.65 crore, respectively.

Kalki 2898 AD has also made a significant impact worldwide , becoming the second highest grosser of all time in North America with $17.5 million and counting, according to trade analyst Ramesh Bala. Vyjayanthi Movies, the production house behind Kalki, announced this weekend that the film has crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark worldwide, making it the 7th highest grossing Indian film ever. This milestone surpasses blockbusters like Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal.

Within just two weeks, Kalki has surpassed the lifetime domestic collection of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and is poised to exceed its worldwide collection of Rs 1055 crore soon.

It earlier eclipsed the nett domestic collection of Pathaan and Animal, two of the biggest hits of last year. The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer made Rs 543.05 crore at the domestic box office during its lifetime run. It also went past Sunny Deol-starrer Gadar 2, which made Rs 525.45 crore at the box office. With its third weekend performance, Kalki 2898 AD also crossed Animal’s domestic collection, which made Rs 556.36 crore.

With its overwhelming commercial success, Kalki 2898 AD is set to become a franchise, with a sequel already in development. Director Nag Ashwin revealed in a recent interview that shooting for the sequel began 20 days ago.
