‘Kaavaalaa’ choreographer Jani master booked in sexual harassment case

Amidst numerous Malayalam cinema heavyweights facing allegations of sexual misconduct, renowned dance choreographer Jani master, has found himself embroiled in a sexual harassment case.

While the Malayalam film industry is reeling from the recent Justice Hema Committee report, which revealed significant discrimination and exploitation faced by women, other film industries are also beginning to feel the impact of the report.

Amidst numerous Malayalam cinema heavyweights facing allegations of sexual misconduct, renowned dance choreographer Jani, popularly known as Jani master, has found himself embroiled in a sexual harassment case. According to news agency PTI, police reported that a complaint was filed against him by a woman.

The complainant, who had previously worked with Jani, alleged sexual assault and abuse in her complaint. The Raidurgam police in Telangana initially registered a zero FIR and then transferred the case to the Narsingi police station on Sunday night, according to the news agency.

A significant figure in Telugu and Tamil cinema, Jani won the National Film Award for Best Choreography for his work in “Megam Karukkatha” from Thiruchitrambalam (2022), which stars Dhanush and Nithya Menen in the lead roles. He has also been honoured with three Filmfare Awards South and three SIIMA Awards and has worked across Kannada and Hindi film industries too.

Notable works by Jani include “Kaavaalaa” from Jailer (2023), “Ranjithame” and “Thee Thalapathy” from Varisu (2023), “Arabic Kuthu” from Beast (2022), “Srivalli” from Pushpa: The Rise (2021) and “Butta Bomma” from Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (2020).

In January this year, he officially joined the Jana Sena Party (JSP) in the presence of party president, “Power Star” Pawan Kalyan, who is currently serving as the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
