Ram Charan in Game ChangerRam Charan-Shankar's Game Changer expected to have a good start at the box office.

Game Changer box office collection prediction Day 1: Director Shankar’s films have had a long-standing association with festive releases, and after a brief gap, he returns with one of his most-anticipated projects, Game Changer. Starring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani in the lead roles, Game Changer marks the first solo lead film of the RRR actor after Vinaya Vidheya Rama (2019), which was incidentally Kiara’s last Telugu movie too.

According to trade website Sacnilk, Game Changer has earned Rs 26.7 crore on Day 1. While the Telugu 2D version has sold an impressive 4.8 lakh tickets, the Tamil version has sold 33, 192 tickets and the Hindi version has sold 70,585 tickets. In total, the number of tickets brought through advance booking comes up to 5.9 lakh tickets across the formats (2D, 3D, 4Dx), and languages (Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada). With block tickets, the film’s earning stands at Rs 43.5 crore. Till noon, the film has earned Rs 13.65 crore. The number is expected to go up as the day progresses.

As expected, it is the Telugu version that is leading the way. But, the Hindi version too has sold an impressive number of tickets, and is expected to start strong. The same holds good for the Tamil version, but the release is subdued in Tamil Nadu despite the brand of Shankar because as many as six Tamil films are hitting screens in the same release window. But nothing works as well as word-of-mouth, and if things fall into place, Game Changer might make deep inroads into the Tamil market as well. Incidentally, the biggest obstacle in Game Changer’s way in the Hindi market is another Telugu film, Pushpa 2: The Rule, which continues to rake in decent numbers even after a month of its release. The numbers from the Malayalam and Kannada versions of Game Changer isn’t encouraging either.

Considering the minimal promotions that team Game Changer have done in various markets outside Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, it would be increasingly tough to emulate the Pushpa brand of success. However, it is also an exhibition of smart strategy by not riding too high on the pan-Indian bandwagon, and placing Game Changer firmly on the local turf. The trailer and promos promise a quintessential commercial Telugu entertainer, and the makers don’t have to really worry about pandering to different kinds of audience across the country. It is smarter to go pan-Indian after the film rather than browbeating about it long before it finds its voice and reach.

Nevertheless, it is a long festive weekend, and the film can pick up pace and get things in order. However, even in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, competition would get tough with Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Daaku Maharaaj and Venkatesh’s Sankrantiki Vasthunnaam releasing on January 12 and 14, respectively.
