Telugu actors Rajasekhar and his wife Jeevitha have reportedly been sentenced to one year in jail by a Nampally court in a defamation case filed against them by producer Allu Aravind.

In 2011, Aravind initiated a defamation lawsuit against Rajasekhar and Jeevitha, prompted by their allegations that there were irregularities in the way Chiranjeevi Blood Bank was being run, India Today reported. The couple alleged that the organisation, founded by Telugu megastar and Aravind’s brother-in-law Chiranjeevi, was also involved in the sale of blood in the black market.

Following a lengthy 12-year legal dispute, the Nampally court delivered its verdict on Tuesday, sentencing Rajasekhar and Jeevitha to one year in jail and imposing a fine of Rs 5 lakh on them for the defamatory statements made by the couple, the report added. It is learnt that the couple have obtained bail and can appeal in a higher court now.

Chiranjeevi and Rajashekar have been at loggerheads for many years now. It may be recalled that in 2020, an argument had broken out between the two during an event organised by the Movie Artists Association (MAA).

After Chiranjeevi, the founding president of MAA, said in his speech that differences of opinion among MAA members should be sorted out peacefully, without making the issues public or creating controversies, Rajashekar confronted the former on stage, criticising his stance and questioning the restriction on members expressing their opinions freely. Rajashekar’s wife Jeevitha later apologised on behalf of her husband.

Rajasekhar, who kickstarted his career with the Tamil film Pudhumai Penn, has starred in several notable films, including Talambralu, Sruthilayalu, Aahuti, Ankusam, Magaadu, Allari Priyudu, Anna, Omkaram, Suryudu, Sivayya, Manasunna Maaraju, Maa Annayya and Simharasi. He was last seen in the 2022 thriller film Shekar, helmed by his wife Jeevitha herself.

Meanwhile, Jeevitha, who began her career with the film Uravai Kaatha Kili, has so four directed four films.
