The Kapil Sharma Show’s Sumona Chakravarti celebrates her first award in 17 years: ‘My first ever since I started acting’

Sumona revealed that she went "blank" when she had to give a thank-you speech on the stage while accepting an award in the Best Actor Female Comedy category for The Kapil Sharma Show at the recently concluded Indian Television Academy (ITA) Awards.

The Kapil Sharma Show’s Sumona Chakravarti is celebrating the first award she has ever received in a career of 17 years. Sumona won the Best Actor Female Comedy (jury) award for The Kapil Sharma Show at the recently concluded Indian Television Academy (ITA) Awards. Taking to social media, she expressed her gratitude for the recognition.

Sharing pictures of herself gazing at the award trophy, she wrote, “I WON AN AWARD LAST NIGHT. 😄😁😆 💃🏻 💃🏻 💃🏻  Best Actor Female Comedy (JURY) for the The Kapil Sharma Show at the @theitaofficial  My first win, my first ever since I started acting 17yrs ago. ”

The actor also shared how she felt a jolt of happiness on receiving the award and stated that it was not an expected win and hence she went “blank” when she had to give a thank you speech on the stage. She wrote, “Jo bhi kaho (say whatever) we’re all suckers for accolades & recognition. When you hear your name & your heart skips a beat & then it starts racing while walking up to the stage & then you receive the award & then- boom💥 blank….I think for a whole of 5-7 seconds there was pin drop silent at the venue because it was expected of me to speak; instead i shared a quick moment admiring the award & feeling the “feeling”. Oh i did speak after 5 secs, lol.”

“Thank you to The Kapil Sharma Show, the entire cast & crew, @sonytvofficial @banijayasia. It takes an army of people who have worked very hard over the last 10 years to make this show & it’s characters what it is today.  Thank you for all the love & adulation that I receive from all over the world, across all age groups. I’m grateful for it all. THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING; FIRST OF MANY TO COME.  What is meant to be, will always find a way to you.  Thank you Universe 🧿💙🦋🌀🦕🦄,” she added.

Sumona started her career as a child actor in Aamir Khan and Manisha Koirala’s Mann (1999). She then went on to act in Balaji Telefilms’ Bade Achhe Lagte Hain but found popularity for her comedy gigs with Kapil Sharma in The Kapil Sharma Show.
