The Great Indian Kapil Show: Rohit Sharma gets emotional as he opens up on 2023 World Cup loss, says ‘Felt the nation might be angry with us’

Accompanied by moments of laughter, the second episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show also unfolded a deeply emotional moment. Featuring star cricketers Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer as guests, the show saw Rohit delve into an emotional conversation with Kapil Sharma, recounting the painful memory of India’s loss in the 2023 World Cup final to Australia.

Speaking about the bitter moment of losing the World Cup, Rohit told Kapil, “Two days before the match, our team was in Ahmedabad and we did our practice. The team had maintained a good momentum. As if the team was on autopilot. When the match began, we started good. Shubman Gill got out quickly but then Virat Kohli and I had a partnership. We were confident we could achieve a good score. I feel that in big matches, if you are able to score runs and create pressure on the opposite team…because the opposite team has to make runs. But Australia played good cricket. We even managed to take three-wickets for just 40 runs but they had a long partnership.”

After Rohit Sharma’s heartfelt speech, Archana Puran Singh gave him a standing ovation, saying, “Whether you won the World Cup or not, you won hearts of all Indians.” This was followed by the audience cheering for Rohit.

Seeing their gesture, the cricketer said, “I was thinking that the World Cup took place in our country but still we couldn’t win. I felt the nation might be angry with us. But I only heard people praising how well we played, and how they enjoyed watching that cricket.”

The second episode of Great Indian Kapil Show aired on Netflix on Saturday. Kapil Sharma’s brand new show premiered on March 31, with Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor and Riddhima Kapoor in attendance.
