Peyush Bansal backs out of Shark Tank India deal after hearing Nikhil Kamath’s name, Vineeta Singh calls the pitch ‘random max’
Shark Tank India season 4: Anupam Mittal's comments about 'credibility' left a couple of entrepreneurs sour on the premiere episode of the reality show's latest season.

The fourth season of Shark Tank India premiered on Monday with a series of dramatic pitches. A couple of entrepreneurs, Karan and Advita, appeared on the premiere episode to pitch their concierge service called Indulge. They said that they are targetting the 12,000 ‘ultra-high net worth’ individuals currently residing in India, and that their service will offer everything that the clients need in terms of ‘travel, retail, dining, experiences, and special requests.” The panel of ‘sharks’, including Anupam Mittal, Peyush Bansal, Namita Thapar, Vineeta Singh and Aman Gupta, were divided over the need and scalability of the business. They asked for Rs 50 lakh in exchange of 1% equity.
The pitchers said that they currently have 183 paying customers, whom they charge either Rs 40,000 per month or Rs 4 lakh per year, plus expenses. Anupam was sure that they also earn a commission from their partners, and the entrepreneurs confessed that they make 5% on every deal they strike with their brand partners. Anupam wasn’t convinced by the ethics of the operation, and wanted to know if they are fully transparent with their clients about this back-room deal-making. They said that their clients don’t need to know.
Anupam said that he, and several ‘UHNW’ individuals like him, already have ‘executive assistants’ to look after their personal needs. Aman, on the other hand, said that he’s the kind of person who counts every rupee that he spends, and that he can’t resonate with the model at all. Peyush joked that Namita is the perfect candidate for such a service, as she ‘travels with an entourage’. He was also interested in knowing what some of the weirdest requests that the entrepreneurs have received from their clients. They narrated a story about supplying a Diet Coke can for a client in a village in the Himalayas. They said that it cost them Rs 4,000. Aman was stunned. “Rs 4,000 for a can of Coke?” he remarked.
The entrepreneurs said that they also have an app, through which clients can purchase anything from a ‘villa, yacht, and art’. Anupam posed piercing questions about their revenue, and wasn’t too happy with what he heard. “My biggest problem is credibility, I don’t believe what you’re saying, your numbers simply don’t match up with the picture you’re painting. You need a lot more clarity before you raise capital from an investor,” he said.
Aman, Namita and Vineeta also backed out of the deal. Peyush showed some interest, but just as he asked the entrepreneurs to explain their equity breakup, he discovered a previously undiscussed detail that made him change his mind. The entrepreneurs said that the billionaire Nikhil Kamath gave them Rs 75 lakh in seed funding at the very beginning of their journey, but has since exited the business. Peyush said that because of this lack of confusing detail, he wanted to back out. In the post-pitch piece to camera, the pitchers appeared to be sour about the experience. Advita wasn’t happy about her credibility being questioned, while Karan said, “Maybe its a learning for them if we do really well.” Meanwhile, Vineeta described the pitch as ‘random max’ as the segment wrapped up.
