Roadies Season 5 winner Ashutosh Kaushik recently spoke about his time on the popular MTV show, revealing he was always at loggerheads with anchor-judge Raghu Ram and fought with him often as he couldn’t take his “abuses”. Raghu was known to be a foul-mouthed, aggressive judge on the show which remained a sensation for the youth when it was at its peak.
Ashutosh, however, wouldn’t have any of Raghu’s behaviour and said he would hit back every time the TV personality crossed a line with his language. In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Ashutosh spoke about his time in Roadies and recalled a specific task, which led to a fight between him and Raghu.
“There was a task which none of us were able to do. Ranvijay had given me an idea on how to execute it, but I said I will follow my heart. Later, Raghu came and abused everyone, including me, for failing to do it despite being suggested on how to finish it. I told him clearly, ‘Ho gaya tera? Main bhi kuch bol lu? (Are you done? Now let me speak?)’
“I told him there were already four-five Roadies who were injured and were getting nursed in the vanity van. Only two-three were left and if everyone had injured their palms due to the rope, who would have ridden the bike?!”
Ashutosh Kaushik, who was among the most popular contestants on the show, recalled Raghu telling him that he can’t even finish “one task” correctly, which angered him.
“I told him, ‘Aur aisa hai, main yaha teri galiyaan sunne toh aaya nahi, laa humara thela de hum ghar chal rahe (I am not here to listen to your abuses, hand over my bag I am out of here). You will be respected till we don’t abuse you, if we start, then what will you do?”
Ashutosh said his life changed after winning the adventure reality show, with him having to learn how to give autographs the first time he visited Delhi after Roadies Season 5.
He said, “When I entered Delhi metro, everyone was asking for my autograph! Then I realised how big a deal winning the show was. But the funny thing was that I didn’t know how to give an autograph! So then at night I learnt how to give an autograph, because I had to travel in metro the next day as well! I made several chits of my autography, so that whenever someone would ask for it, I would hand them over!”
Ashutosh Kaushik won Roadies 5 in 2007 and went on to also win the second season of Bigg Boss the following year. He eventually made his Bollywood debut with Vivek Oberoi and Mallika Sherawat’s Kismat Love Paisa Dilli in 2012 and was last seen in the 2016 film Chal Jaa Bapu.
