Television stars Mahhi Vij and Jay Bhanushali recently opened up about an emotional episode on their journey to parenthood. The couple, who embraced parenthood through IVF in 2019, were overjoyed when they discovered they were expecting twins. However, fate had a different plan, and they experienced the heartbreak of losing one of their babies during the pregnancy.

Recalling the bittersweet memory, Mahhi Vij told ETimes that she did three unsuccessful cycles of IVF before she conceived twins on her fourth try. The actor revealed that it was her husband, Jay, who broke the good news to her. She said, “During the first trimester, I was on complete bed rest. I would only go for sonography, and a nurse would visit home to give me the injections. I became much quieter, and there was no social life.”

The couple was elated at the prospect of having twins. However, their joy was tempered when the doctor told them that they might lose both the babies. Explaining the situation, Mahhi added, “In IVF, there are chances of having multiple babies. Our Taru was A+, and the other baby was A. Unfortunately, the other baby couldn’t survive. The doctors explained that it was good that it’s leaving because most of the time, it leaves along with the A+ baby. I was praying that it’s not our fate to have them both, but at least one should be with us.”

Despite the devastating loss, Mahhi and Jay found solace in their surviving daughter, Tara. The couple are also foster parents to their caretakers’ kids Khushi and Rajveer.
