Actor Jay Bhanushali might have been a regular face on the Indian television screens but he got little chance to showcase his acting talent once he took up the job of anchoring the dance reality show, Dance India Dance. Recently, Jay revealed how his sabbatical of 2-3 years turned into no acting jobs for him for 15 years. He also shared how desperately he wants his wife Mahhi Vij to return to acting.

Jay has made his comeback to daily soaps with Sony TV’s Hum… Rahe Na Rahe Hum. While promoting the show, he narrated how he got offered an anchor’s role because of the ‘nonsense’ he did during his stint as a contestant on the celebrity dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.

He told Bollywood Bubble, “I did a successful TV show and then was given a chance to do a big dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhhla Ja. There I did a lot of nonsense on that show, I did a lot of fun with the celebrities. So, someone noticed anchoring capabilities in me and then they called me and I signed Dance India Dance.”

Jay shared he took the job also because he was tired after working non-stop on daily shows on TV. “In the first two-three years I was like I want to stay away from daily soaps because I had worked for two years non-stop, without sleeping, I thought I deserve this break and I should come back after two-three years,” he shared.

However, he got stuck with anchoring because people ‘typecasted’ him. Jay said, “When you do a job and you do it successfully, people typecast you. When I started anchoring, people didn’t see me beyond that. I was quite surprised because I had done a very successful show as an actor and then only I was shifted to anchoring. Even if people were calling me, they were not right roles. After eight years I was desperate to get an acting project. But this show has now come to me after 15 years.”

Jay’s wait got longer also because he was particular about the kind of roles he wanted to portray and the story of the show he would be a part of. Not only for himself, but the actor also doesn’t want his wife Mahhi Vij to take up any role only because she wants to work. However, he is praying every day for her to get a good role.

He said, “She is waiting for that one role. I always tell her to take a role when you feel that this show is going to do wonders, don’t just do it because you want to do it. I am just waiting and I think I will have tears in my eyes when I see her back on TV. I am forcing her and telling her to do it. I pray every day that the day comes soon when I see her in a very good show.”

Jay also shared that now his daughter Tara has grown up and both her parents can go to work without worrying much. Also, he believes that no matter what, “mothers somehow manage to take out time for their children.”
