Farah Khan rejected me for ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’, said I was too fat: Shilpa Shirodkar reveals she was first choice for Malaika Arora-Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic song

In the latest episode of Bigg Boss 18, filmmaker Farah Khan hosted the Weekend Ka Vaar instead of the show’s regular host, Salman Khan. She condemned many contestants for their poor behaviour on the show. The highlight of the episode was contestant, actor Shilpa Shirodkar, sharing an interesting anecdote involving Farah. Towards the end of the episode, while talking to Chum Darang and Karanveer Mehra, she revisited the time when Farah approached her for the song “Chaiyya Chaiyya” from Dil Se, which featured Malaika Arora and Shah Rukh Khan.

In the episode, Shilpa Shirodkar opened up about being rejected for the track because of her weight. Shilpa said, “She (Farah) approached me for Chaiyya Chaiyya.” She further revealed that the filmmaker-choreographer had asked her to lose weight in order to star in the song. However, after a week or 10 days, the actor was rejected by Farah.

When Karan asked Shilpa if it was because she didn’t lose weight, she revealed what Farah told her: “You are too fat for the song.” After listening to her story, Karanveer burst into laughter. She shared that it was after she was rejected that Malaika Arora was cast in the song, opposite Shah Rukh Khan. Karanveer joked, “Tu chadti toh train rukh jaati kya? (Would the train have stopped if you were on it?)” She then said that only Farah and Dil Se director Mani Ratnam can reveal the real reason why she wasn’t selected.
