This year, the Bigg Boss 19 set is, well, underwhelming. Be it the colour scheme, overuse of animal motifs, or only one room dedicated to the original theme of democracy, it all looks very disconnected. As disclosed by the show’s production head, Abhishek Mukherjee, they were racing against time this year. But then, when does a ticking clock become a hurdle for creativity, especially something that has been done well for 18 years?

Calling the design inspired by Cabin In The Woods, attaching luxury to it is a challenge. Sharing that they haven’t particularly stuck to a theme this year, Abhishek Mukherjee says, “This year, we have not kept any specific theme; we have gone back to the OG Bigg Boss. In between, we had tried to get some themes into the show, but then, as content makers, we realized that the theme only lasts for a week or 10 days, or a maximum of two weeks, and then it becomes a normal show. So this year, if you see the house, we have tried to create a log house, kept it very simple and basic.”
While addressing the media, the show’s creative head, Rohan Manchanda, also added, “Talking from Omung’s point of view, he has tried to create a log house, a cabin in the woods kind of situation where you see a lot of animals. He has attempted to depict a scenario in which these animals are trapped inside the house, which serves as a representation of the show itself. As per the theme mentioned in the promo, we have a designated area in the house, known as the Assembly room, which will serve as the nucleus of the show. How it plays out in the show, you will have to see.”
Abhishek Mukherjee also added, “This year, the challenge was that we were racing against time. It rained so much that it became a challenge for Omung’s team to finish the house within the given deadline. It took 60 days to make the house. Omung has been shooting for his film, so he wasn’t around a lot of times, but being a master at this, he quickly designed everything. We are very happy with the house.” Sarvesh Singh from the show’s core team also added, “Initially, the show was supposed to start on 3rd August, but then the show got pushed due to some reasons, so we got three weeks extra to work on the house.”
Here’s what we think about the Bigg Boss 19 House…
The Garden Area
Over the last few seasons, we have seen a lot of elements in this space, but this year, it is an open field that allows contestants a lot of space for tasks. However, the space is scattered with furniture placed on all four sides. Every corner of the garden area has a bench, sofa, or an accent chair, and there are just too many of them. Given that the makers have stuck to sustainability for the previous seasons, this year, a lot of furniture from the last season also appears in the show.

The rocking chair, which was Karanveer Mehra’s favorite last season, has also been placed in the garden this year. Other than the sofas that are placed in the passage, the garden has small seating spaces randomly arranged. Two tables can accommodate four people each, and an ottoman with a capacity of four is placed in the center. The gym area seemed smaller than before, and the elements in the space outside the bathroom were too cluttered. Even the entrance to the house has a design made from the bark of trees, but it seems to form a hindrance.
The Living Room
The house’s living area gives a tropical vibe with too many animal motifs. A lot is going on in this space, and it spells confusion — big eye-grabbing sculptures, parrots sitting above the kitchen table, and a bull head above the door of the confession room. What also looks very odd is a chandelier designed on a rooster.

The Kitchen Area
Compared to the previous years, the kitchen also seemed smaller. Also, the cutlery and utensils placed in the space are not in sync with the design of the house. The colors used in the kitchen space make it look like an extension of the living room; the space that stirs a lot of drama doesn’t stand out this year.

The Bedroom
Interestingly, the bedroom this year assures the comfort that a space like this should. There is a sense of calm in this space. It has a vintage vibe, with minimal elements. Interestingly, this year there is no single bed, but lots of double beds and one bed that can accommodate three people.

The Assembly Room
The space that is a highlight this season is the Assembly Room, where all the major decisions will be made by the contestants. The space is designed in a way that it commands authority. Mukherjee reveals, “The Assembly room will open one or two days after the launch. This year, the contestants will make all the decisions; of course, Bigg Boss will intervene, but he will just add the tadka to the game.”

The Bathroom
The bathroom area where the contestants often keep their belongings is similar to what it was last year. Just the wallpapers and color palette have been changed.

Bigg Boss 19 House overview
While the Bigg Boss 19 house is more open spatially, it lives up to the idea of a cabin in the woods, which is hard to connect with the glamorous world of Bigg Boss. Explaining the lack of jail this year, Abhishek says, “There is no jail in the house this year, but the contestants will get punished. There are many ways to punish them beyond the jail.”
There are also 8-10 secret doors in the house this year whose function will be revealed once the show begins. While the house is basic, the core team is confident about the contestants being vibrant.
