Avika Gor, best known for starring in the popular television show Balika Vadhu, recently shared that she was so sheltered on the set that she didn’t even understand the concept of TRPs until her last week on the show. Balika Vadhu had her playing a child bride named Anandi, and marked her debut as an actor.
Talking to Siddharth Kannan, Avika said she was “lucky enough” to be on a set where she was really “pampered.” Recalling her time on Balika Vadhu, she said, “I was never made to feel like I was working. It was all fun and games. It was during my last week at Balika Vadhu that I learnt that there was something called TRP. I didn’t even know until then that this is what we are working for.”
The 1920: Horrors of the Heart actor said that it was the show’s unit that protected her, as her family was just as clueless as she was. “My family didn’t know anything. Since we don’t come from this industry, they had no idea that this could happen. My family was as innocent as I was. So people on my sets really protected me. Not just Balika Vadhu sets, even Sasural Simar Ka sets,” she shared.
Avika co-starred with Dipika Kakar on Sasural Simar Ka, and described the environment as very family-like. “There have been times when Dipika Kakar would come up to me and say that ‘You didn’t do this right’, or, ‘I didn’t like the way you spoke to somebody,’ and I would work on it. I think I needed that honesty around me where people would put me in place when it was needed,” she said.
Avika will next be seen in Vikram Bhatt-produced 1920: Horrors of the Heart. Also starring Rahul Dev and Barkha Bisht, the film is set to release on June 23.
