It is finally confirmed — Silambarasan is part of Mani Ratnam-Kamal Haasan’s upcoming film Thug Life. After photos of the actor from the shoot of the film in Delhi were leaked, Madras Talkies and Raaj Kamal Films International, which are jointly producing the project, came up with an official poster and a teaser from the film to reveal the look of Simbu.

Silambarasan is reportedly playing Kamal Haasan’s son in the movie. He is sporting long hair and his look is reminiscent of his role in the film Kaalai.

The caption of the poster reads, “In the Realms of Dust, a New Thug Arises! STR”. It suggests Simbu is also playing a gangster in the movie. However, in the promo, the actor is seen driving a SUV of ‘Border Defence Force’. The desert and the number plate of the car suggest that the sequence is set in Rajasthan. Typical of Mani Ratnam’s projects, the plot and other details of the film remain a mystery.

Only recently Simbu was seen as an old gangster in Pathu Thala, which had Gautham Karthick playing the role of his confidant. With Thug Life, Simbu seems to be playing a similar role to Gautham’s from Pathu Thala. Earlier, Dulquer Salmaan was roped in to play the role but the actor backed out of the project due to unknown reasons.

This marks the second collaboration of Simbu and Mani Ratnam, who earlier teamed up for Chekka Sivantha Vaanam, which was also a gangster drama. It also marks Kamal’s second project with Simbu. The two have joined hands for an untitled project, which has Simbu in the lead and Kamal Haasan as the producer.

With the addition of Silambarasan to Thug Life, the star power of the film has increased by several folds. Other than the two stars, the film also stars Abhirami, Nasser, Trisha, Gautham Karthik, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Joju George in important roles. AR Rahman is composing the music for the film. In a recent interview, Kamal revealed that they have already composed a song for the film in a matter of five hours.
