Right from the time it was announced that Sundar C has been roped in as the director of the sequel to Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman, the hype was high because he is known for including divine intervention in his films like the Aranmanai franchise. Considering he was signed by Vels Films International right after the blockbuster success of Aranmanai 4, and it was set to mark the ace filmmaker’s maiden collaboration with Nayanthara, the hype train chugged along. And on Thursday, Mookuthi Amman 2 went on floors in a rather gala muhurat event.

Vels Films International’s Ishari Ganesh took to the stage to reveal that Nayanthara is undergoing a special fasting for a few weeks now ahead of the shooting of Mookuthi Amman 2. With Nayanthara playing the titular role, Ganesh said that she was taking part in this ritual because she was playing a goddess. He also revealed that Nayanthara did the same for the first part, which was a direct-to-OTT release, and is available on Jio Hotstar.

The producer also revealed that the film will be made on a very high budget, and it will be not just a pan-Indian movie, but will have a worldwide release on a grand scale. Mookuthi Amman 2 will see a complete overhaul on the crew front as Sundar C is bringing his core team to work on the sequel. While actor-musician-composer Hip Hop Tamizha Adhi has been signed as the music director of the sequel, which marks his second collaboration with Nayanthara after Imaikka Nodigal, another Sundar C regular Gopi Amarnath will be serving as the cinematographer.
