Nawazuddin Siddiqui is currently busy with the promotions of his debut Telugu film Saindhav. In a recent interview, the Gangs Of Wasseypur actor admitted to not fully investing himself in his Tamil debut Petta, which starred Rajinikanth in the lead role. Siddiqui shared his sense of guilt over not taking the initiative to understand the meaning of his dialogues and simply lip-syncing them in the Rajinikanth-starrer.

Speaking to Galatta Plus, the actor recalled his experience working on the Rajinikanth film. He expressed, “When I did Petta with Rajini sir, I was in a lot of guilt after finishing the film’s shooting because I thought I was taking money for a thing in which I had no idea what I was doing. I thought I made them a fool of them because I was getting prompting and I was lip-syncing on that. I didn’t understand a lot of things there.”

He added, “I was not able to understand a lot of words but I was doing it. Even after that if it is appreciated, you feel like hiding and when you get money for that, you ask yourself if you are committing a fraud. The thing that I got money for, I was weak in that. I was not able to understand that. I have a lot of guilt for that. This is why in Saindhav I did everything. I did my own dubbing and I understood the meaning of each and every dialogue that I was shooting for. So, my guilt reduced a bit.”

Petta was released in 2019 to mixed reviews. While Rajinikanth’s performance, technical aspects, and action sequences were praised, the film faced criticism for its writing.
