Madharaasi, starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role, has received more favorable reviews compared to many of AR Murugadoss’ recent releases. Despite its shortcomings, the film marks a promising return to form for the blockbuster director. In his first interview post-release, Murugadoss opened up about being genuinely surprised by how many people had been waiting for his comeback. He also talked about directors losing their touch and his desire to do right by audiences who have supported him over the years.

Talking about his feelings post the release of Madharaasi, Murugadoss said, “There are numerous stages in filmmaking in between conception of an idea and its final creation. So there is no guarantee that a good story will necessarily translate to a good film. That has happened in the past.” He also spoke about the learnings in the process. “It’s the director’s responsibility to carry the vision through without any obstructions. In cinema, you can never say that you know everything; that is an illusion. You have to keep at it constantly and learn with every film you make. You can always learn.”

During the interview with Sudhir Srinivasan, AR Murugadoss also cited the case of some legendary filmmakers failing to meet expectations with their films. “If there was no learning, we would see all great filmmakers make hits all the time. But that is not the case. I was always working on new ideas and concepts for my movies.”

The Madharaasi director also expressed his pleasant surprise at discovering how eagerly audiences were anticipating his comeback. ”The work has been going on for a long time, but I can get it through to my audience only now. I was really surprised to learn that so many people really cared for the work I had done and really rooted for me to make a comeback,” said Murugadoss.

“I realized that I need to do things better, as so many people really seem to care about me. I never expected it. I want to give something back that is worth their time. I have to meet their expectations from now on without fail,” he added.
