Lokesh Kanagaraj opens up about rumoured film with Rajinikanth, shares update on Kaithi 2

Lokesh Kanagaraj recently attended a college event, where he was asked about his upcoming films including Leo, Kaithi 2, and a rumoured film with Rajinikanth.

At a recent college event, Vikram director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s fans couldn’t stop asking him about his upcoming films but Lokesh chose to say very little. But, even with a few updates, Lokesh has given his fans lots to talk about. The director was asked many questions about his upcoming film Leo. And the fans also wondered if there was an update on Kaithi 2, and his rumoured upcoming film with Rajinikanth.

The Kaithi director has wrapped up the shoot of Leo and is working on its post-production. When a student asked when will he direct Kaithi 2, Lokesh said, “I am doing another film after Leo, and Kaithi 2 will be after that one.”

Lokesh was also asked about rumours that he is teaming up with Rajinikanth for his next film, which is referred to as Thalaivar 171. Lokesh evaded the question saying, “Production side should say. I can’t say anything, right? Let it come from the production side.” However, it has to be noted that Lokesh didn’t deny the speculation. Fans are now speculating if the film before Kaithi 2 is the one with Rajinikanth.

Kaithi, the first film of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, ended with its protagonist Dilli (Karthi) walking away with his daughter on the National Highway. The villain reveals that there is more to him than what meets the eye. The film doesn’t reveal the background of Dilli and his past. His character reappeared in Vikram (2022) which showed him digging a well in Uttar Pradesh with his friend and daughter. It has to be seen how Lokesh will connect the story arcs of Vikram and Kaithi.

Meanwhile, Leo, which is set to be released on October 19 is in the post-production phase. Lokesh confirmed that the audio launch of the film will be held in September. Other than Vijay, Leo stars Trisha, Sanjay Dutt, Mysskin, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Anurag Kashyap in important roles.
