Leo box office collection Day 3: Helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and starring 'Thalapathy' Vijay, Leo minted Rs 40 crore in India on its third day of release.

‘Thalapathy’ Vijay’s action-thriller Leo is off to a fantastic start at the box office, having earned a whopping Rs 100 crore in India in just two days of release. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Leo minted an additional Rs 40 crore on its third day of release, bringing its total collection to Rs 140.05 crores. On its first day, Leo made an impressive Rs 64 crore in India, surpassing Rajinikanth’s Jailer, which earned Rs 44.5 crore earlier this year. However, the second day wasn’t as strong, with collections dropping to Rs 35 crore, marking a 45% decrease. It remains to be seen if Leo can beat Rajinikanth’s Jailer, which grossed over Rs 600 crore worldwide.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Leo also stars Sanjay Dutt, Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Sarja, Mysskin, Sandy and Gautham Menon, among others. It was released in multiple languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. Leo had an overall 76.25% Tamil Occupancy on Saturday.
According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, Leo experienced a drop in collection at the US box office on Saturday, after debuting on Wednesday. Leo the top-earning film for both Vijay and director Lokesh in the USA, and it’s now the seventh highest-grossing Kollywood movie of all time. As reported by Sacnilk, the film has minted Rs 212 crore globally.
The film is doing great business in Tamil Nadu, Vijay’s home turf. Collections in Tamil Nadu stood at an estimated Rs 26 crore on the third day. Leo is also making good money in other areas, with around Rs 7 crore coming in from Kerala, Rs 5 crore from the Andhra Pradesh/Telangana regions, and Rs 5.50 crore from Karnataka. Leo marks the second collaboration between Vijay and Lokesh after Master. The film is a part of Lokesh’s cinematic universe of police procedurals, which also includes Karthi’s Kaithi, and Kamal Haasan’s Vikram. He’s next directing Rajinikanth in a film that could unite three of the biggest Tamil stars in history under the same umbrella.
