Lal Salaam actor Dhanya Balakrishna faces backlash for her old comments about Tamil people
Dhanya Balakrishnan's old Facebook post criticising Chennai people has resurfaced ahead of the release of Lal Salaam, in which she has played an important role.

Actor Dhanya Balakrishna is facing backlash for her old demeaning comments about Tamil people. The actor is part of Lal Salam, which has Rajinikanth in a cameo role. As Dhanya’s pictures from the film’s audio launch are making the rounds on social media, screenshots of her Facebook post from 2012 (now deleted) have resurfaced online.
Back in 2012, when IPL team Chennai Super Kings qualified for the playoffs, Dhanya took to Facebook and wrote a hate message claiming that Chennai people are living at the mercy of the people of Bengaluru. She claimed that Chennai people (Tamils) beg for water and electricity from Bengaluru. She also added that Chennai people come to Karnataka’s capital and make it unclean.
This created a huge backlash back then, and Dhanya Balakrishna said that she was quitting Tamil cinema. However, the actor went on to be part of Tamil films Raja Rani, Carbon, and Yaar Ivan. She also acted in Tamil web series Carbon and As I am Suffering From Kadhal.
Now, after more than a decade, her comments have resurfaced ahead of the release of Lal Salam, directed by Aishwarya Rajinikanth. Netizens have questioned why the director has cast someone in the Tamil film when she holds bad views about people here.
If this information is true… how can someone be so rude and still shamelessly act again in Tamil Movies.. You Beg We give. 🤟 https://t.co/QkGqSC2nKq

Can a #TamilNadu actor talk ill about #Karnataka and its people and still continue to act in a #Kannadamovie? Wasn’t actor #siddharth stopped in the middle of a movie promotion just because #cauverywaterissue was on?#LalSalaam #Rajinikanth #dhanyabalakrishna https://t.co/h9ZRrd7srl
