Jana Nayagan second look: Hours after revealing the official title of the movie, the makers of “Thalapathy” Vijay’s Jana Nayagan have dropped another poster, igniting even more curiosity among fans and moviegoers about the movie’s tone. While the initial announcement poster, released in September 2024, depicted Vijay as the “torchbearer of democracy” and the first-look title poster, which arrived earlier today, presented him as the Jana Nayagan (People’s Hero or the Leader of the Masses), the latest poster shows him channelling the charisma of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and legendary film icon MG Ramachandran (MGR).

The new poster features Vijay standing in the centre of a large photo frame against a striking red backdrop. With a wide smile on his face, he is seen flicking a long whip in the air, with the words “Naan Aanaiyitaal” (If I Order) displayed next to him. It may be mentioned here that this is a reference to the famous song “Naan Aanaiyitaal” from MGR’s 1965 Tamil classic Enga Veettu Pillai, directed by Chanakya, where the actor uses a whip to assert his authority, taking control of the antagonist’s former weapon to stand firm.

Given that Jana Nayagan marks Vijay’s final film before entering active politics in Tamil Nadu, the imagery of him embodying the powerful aura of one of India’s most iconic and successful actor-turned-politicians, and that too in a photo soaked in red hue symbolising revolution, suggests a strong indication of his political ambitions and the route he aims to take.

Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan (tentatively called Thalapathy 69) also features Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani in key roles. This is Vinoth’s sixth directorial venture following Sathuranga Vettai (2014), Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru (2017), Nerkonda Paarvai (2019), Valimai (2022) and Thunivu (2023). Produced by KVN Productions, the film features music by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan and editing by Pradeep E Ragav.
