Jailer box office collection: Rajinikanth film expected to be the biggest Tamil opener of 2023, to earn Rs 49 crore
It looks like Rajinikanth's Jailer will be the biggest Tamil opener of the year. The film is on its way to making Rs 49 crore in India on opening day.
Jailer is expected to have the biggest opening in Tamil cinema this year. Rajinikanth starrer Jailer, which has released in theatres on Thursday, was expected to have a historic opening at the cinemas and it seems like the film is heading in that direction. Based on early estimates, industry tracker Sacnilk reported that the film’s first day collection could amount to Rs 49 crore gross in India.
The state wise breakdown suggests that Tamil Nadu could bring in Rs 25 crore, and Rs 11 crore might come in from Karnataka. The Andhra Pradesh-Telangana market is expected to bring in Rs 7 crore. But, it seems like the Rajinikanth domination will not overpower the northern states. Hindi films Gadar 2 and OMG 2 are relasing in theatres on Friday but it seems like the Tamil films and Hindi films will stick to their own markets.
It was previously reported that ticket aggregator BookMyShow has already sold 900,000 tickets of Jailer with southern states leading the charts. Film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi earlier told indianexpress.com, “In Tamil Nadu and the Tamil-speaking belt across the country, Jailer is looking like an absolute storm. The kind of advance bookings that you see around the film is unprecedented. It is possibly on its way of becoming one of the highest-opening Tamil films of all time. A huge Huge buzz there.”
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer is generating positive reactions from the audience so far. As far as the box office collections are concerned, the film might become the biggest opener for Tamil cinema worldwide in 2021. Previously, Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 2 earned Rs 32 crore in India and broke the record of Vijay’s Varisu, which made Rs 26.5 crore on opening day.
Rajinikanth’s last release Annaatthe, which released in 2021, made Rs 70.19 crore on its first day globally, as per
Manobala Vijayabalan and made over Rs 112 crore in just two days.
Rajinikanth will soon be seen in an extended cameo in Lal Salaam. He is also rumoured to be joining hands with Vikram director Lokesh Kanagaraj for his next film, although an official announcement about the same is still awaited. At a recent college event, when the director was asked about the same, he said, “Production side should say. I can’t say anything, right? Let it come from the production side.” However, it has to be noted that Lokesh didn’t deny the speculation.
