Over the years, Trisha has been asked about one particular interview from the times when she was just a model. The interview is one prominent example of how things can take a complete U-turn in one’s life. The interaction happened on popular actor-anchor Yugi Sethu’s Nayyandi Darbar, a talk show that was the first of its kind on Tamil TV. Trisha was just in 12th standard when she took part in the show. She had become a bit popular in the modelling circle after winning Miss Salem and Miss Chennai beauty contests.

“Suddenly, one-day fine day, I thought why shouldn’t I try modelling? Just give it a try and if I like it, I will continue–this was seven months back–and I really enjoyed it,” little Trisha says when asked about her entry into modelling. When Yugi Sethu follows it up with whether she would get into acting, Trisha without a moment of hesitation said, “No. No. Not at all.”

“I don’t think it is my cup of tea,” she said. Sethu immediately replies, “Oh, you all tell the same thing, but later you go and start dancing to AR Rahman music in films.”

However, Trisha back then was very sure that she will not act. “No (laughs). This is for sure.” Later in 2016, when Trisha was acting in a series of horror comedies like Mohini, I asked her about the interview with Yugi Sethu and the actor laughed and said, “After that, I just decided I should never plan my future! I now go with the flow; take every day as it comes. Because in an unpredictable industry like this one, you can’t say one thing and stick to it, can you now?”

Fast forward to 2023, Trisha, who has turned 40, is still relevant and winning hearts as Mani Ratnam’s Kundhavai. The chemistry between her character and Karthi’s Vandhiyathevan is one of the highlights of the film, which has already collected more than Rs 200 crore worldwide. That is not the end of the story. Trisha is also part of Tamil cinema’s much-anticipated film, Leo. It is all the more special because she is acting alongside Vijay after a gap of 17 years. When I asked Trisha how she is staying relevant for all these years, she said, “Because it’s my job! It is also flattering given that it’s never happened before. I think I am blessed since people have waited for my films. It also means that more than talent or ability, luck plays a big part. And, I am very lucky.”
