Good Bad Ugly Movie Review, Box Office Collection Day 1 LIVE: Ajith’s film earns Rs 28.50 cr on Day 1 as it breaks Vijay and Rajinikanth records, Trisha slams ‘social media reviews’ of film

Reports have it that Ajith Kumar might collaborate with Adhik Ravichandran for his next movie following the successful release of Good Bad Ugly.

Ajith Kumar's action thriller Good Bad Ugly, directed by Adhik Ravichandran, landed in the theaters on April 10. As per reports, Netflix has already secured the digital rights of the film at Rs 95 crore. The film's OTT release is anticipated in mid-to-late May 2025.

Sacnilk.com shared that till 1 pm, Good Bad Ugly earned around Rs 1.9 Cr India net on its second day for all languages.

Trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai shared via X, "#GoodBadUgly dream opening! Nobody in the trade expected it to set the B-O on fire after AK’s last release! Morning shows started slowly but by evening the WOM started working wonders, as family audiences trooped in. Today a working day all shows are going to go full!"

Sunny Deol-starrer Jaat earned Rs 9.50 crore on its opening day. While Jaat looks promising, it is unlikely to hit the trajectory of Gadar 2.

Ahimsa Entertainment posted that Ajith-starrer has broken all his previous record in UK, "We did it maameyy — secured AK his FIRST EVER six-figure UK opening day with #GoodBadUgly, smashing past £100,000. WE promised, WE delivered — AK’s previous records officially rewritten!"

Good Bad Ugly actor Trisha, who plays the female lead in the film, took to her official Instagram handle to pen a cryptic note about the social media reviews and criticism of the film. She wrote, "Shabaaaaaaa...Toxic people, how do you guys do life or sleep well? Does sitting on social media and posting nonsensical stuff about others really make your day? I really, really feel terrible for you guys and the people you live with or are surrounded by. Anonymous cowardice indeed! God bless you all, really!"

Good Bad Ugly achieved approximately 79.47% overall occupancy on its first day. In Chennai, the film was screened in over 924 shows with an impressive 95% occupancy rate, while Bengaluru's 616 shows recorded around 54% occupancy.

Ajith delivers biggest Tamil opener of 2025 with Rs 28 cr debut. The film Good Bad Ugly has had a strong opening at the box office and it overtook Vijay's latest release GOAT, Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan and Ajith's last release Vidaamuyarchi.

SCREEN's Avinash wrote in his review, "Even if the writing is shallow, and most of the performances are functional, Good Bad Ugly is wonderfully engaging, thanks to the editing of Vijay Velukutty whose work is the core of the film’s madness. Cinematographer Abhinandan Ramanujam captures the chaos and cacophony with utmost conviction, and showcases Ajith in a completely new light. The technical expertise of the film doesn’t really compensate for the gaps in the writing. SCREEN's film critic Avinash Ramachandran gave the Ajith Kumar film, 3 star and wrote in his review, "An unhinged Ajith Kumar powers an outlandish and fun ‘fanboy sambavam’." He added, "Even if the writing is shallow, and most of the performances, except an Ajith showreel for the ages, are functional, the film is gloriously engaging."

In an emotional social media post, Good Bad Ugly star Arjun Das opened up about his journey. He revealed that years ago, he was part of the marketing and promotional team for Ajith’s films -- a job that had him visiting theatres on release days to observe fan reactions. At that time, acting alongside Ajith seemed like an impossible dream. Now, years later, he has returned to those same theatres this time as a performer sharing screen space with the star he once promoted.

South Indian International Movie Awards aka SIIMA shared AK film's review on X that read, "?? Good Bad Ugly, directed by Adhik Ravichandran, is a mass-action entertainer that thrives on Ajith Kumar’s larger-than-life presence. The film opens strong with stylish action sequences and a solid first half that keeps the audience engaged. Trisha Krishnan returns alongside Ajith, and their chemistry adds a nostalgic layer to the narrative. The movie delivers what fans expect—slow-motion walks, punch dialogues, and heroic high points. The flashback portion adds some emotional weight, but overall, the film stays rooted in fan service and spectacle. However, the second half doesn’t quite keep up the pace. The storyline takes a predictable route, and the emotional depth is largely missing. While the climax brings back some energy, the film as a whole leans more towards being a celebration of Ajith than a well-rounded cinematic experience. As per the data shared by Sacnilk.com, Good Bad Ugly earned around Rs 8.74 crore India nett on its first day for all languages by 1pm.

As Good Bad Ugly released on Thursday, there have been claims that Romeo Pictures, one of the distributors of the film, is forcing theatre owners to inflate tickets prices and sell them at Rs 500. The claims came from Madurai theatre owners where ticket prices are around Rs 190 for multiplexes. Theatre owners claimed Romeo Pictures threatened to withhold the early morning 9 am show if they did not comply with the increased ticket rates, as per News 18.

As Good Bad Ugly earns Rs 18 cr gross in advance bookings, the Ajith-starrer is currently among the top 5 in Tamil Nadu as opening day earners. Given the way its earnings are shaping up, it will be among the top 3 earners ever by the end of the day.

Good Bad Ugly box office collection is off to a strong start. The Ajith-starrer is nearing Rs 18 crores gross mark in India for the first day collection and is expected to earn over Rs 35 crore for the four-day opening weekend, as per Sacnilk. The numbers are strong and are expected to only go up on the back of positive word-of-mouth and a long weekend.

As Good Bad Ugly releases in theatres, Ajith had some very special wishes coming his way. When asked about Good Bad Ugly's release, Rajinikanth said, "May God bless Ajith". Rajinikanth was speaking to the media at the Chennai airport.

Fans shared videos of actor Ajith's wife Shalini and daughter Anoushka watching Good, Bad Ugly first day first show with fans. While Shalini looked overwhelmed as fans clapped, whistled and cheered in Ajith's intro scene, Anoushka was seen enjoying with them.

After a Solid 1st half, the second half starts well with a flashback episode but has nothing much to offer after that and feels dragged till the end. A few mass blocks have come out very well and it is nice seeing Ajith back in a vintage way. However, the film does not have much of a story or emotional connect and banks on many typical build up elevations and action blocks which get tiring after a point. BGM is apt but definitely had a scope to be better and elevate more scenes. Production Values are good. May not fully meet expectations but is definitely a better movie from Ajith in recent times and can give it a try for some enjoyable mass moments and to see a vintage mass Ajith."

Ajith Kumar's fans in Madurai celebrated his return to the big screen after Vidaamuyarchi by putting up a massive poster of the actor outside a cinema hall. Sharing the news, PTI wrote, “A large poster of actor Ajith Kumar was put outside a cinema hall as his latest film 'Good Bad Ugly' releases today.”
