GOAT box office collection Day 5: Vijay film sees 58 percent drop on Monday; still enters Rs 300 crore club
GOAT box office collection Day 5: 'Thalapathy' Vijay film witnessed a massive drop on Monday and made around Rs 14 crore. Just like always, the first Monday after a big-ticket film’s release has become a place of introspection for the makers.

Vijay’s GOAT faced its first big test at the box-office on Monday after an almost smooth sailing in the four-day release window. The Venkat Prabhu directorial managed to mint Rs 137 crore domestically, and a whopping Rs 288 crores globally in the four days from Thursday to Sunday. However, on Monday, the film saw its biggest fall since the release, as it dipped almost 58.5 % to make around Rs 14 crore. The domestic box-office collection has breached the Rs 150 crore club, and now stands at around Rs 151 crore. Just like always, the first Monday after a big-ticket film’s release has become a place of introspection for the makers.
Yet, despite weathering mixed reviews and the double dip on Friday (42%) and Monday (58.5%), GOAT has managed to enter the Rs 300 crore club at the global box office, and is the highest Tamil grosser of 2024. This is testament to Vijay’s box-office pull, and fans are ruing the fact that he is bidding adieu to cinema at such a peak in his career. It is already known that GOAT was Vijay’s penultimate film as an actor, as he is set to hang up his acting boots to take up the mantle of a politician.
Since Monday was the first working day after a rather extended holiday season for Vinayaka Chathurthi, the occupancy in Tamil Nadu too was just about 44 %. Considering the State was holding the fort for GOAT even when other strongholds like Kerala didn’t pull through, the Monday collections took a hit. However, in an interesting twist, the Telugu version of GOAT managed to surpass the occupancy rate of the Hindi version, which was the surprise package of the film’s box-office run. The Hindi version, titled Thalapathy is the GOAT, has contributed almost Rs 10 crore to the collections, and is a shade more than the Telugu version.

With the star-studded film, which features actors like Prashanth, Sneha, Laila, Prabhudeva, Mohan, and Ajmal, entering its first testing phase, it would be tough to see GOAT enter a space of sudden resurgence because there are no holidays this week. However, the solo release plans of GOAT might keep the film in favour, and result in consistent box-office returns with a spike coming its way during the weekend. Till then, the sedate run might continue, and eventually, not threaten the box-office results of Leo, which is the highest grossing Vijay film so far.
