Demonetization Anthem: Simbu sings ‘No cash, No cash’, takes on Narendra Modi government

The language of the song, penned by Kabilan Vairamuthu, is colloquial and the lyrics reflect the popular mood of the nation and the common people who were affected the most by the Centre’s move to scarp the high-value banknotes. While the bold move was expected to bring the black money hoarders to their knees, it ended up making the normal life of commoners more difficult.

The song says that people who looted crores and crores of money went aboard, referring to liquor baron Vijay Mallya. But, the middle-class were pushed into a mess. It also suggests that while the hard-earned money of honest people became invalid, all the black money became white.

The song also makes reference to the endorsements of country’s high-profile celebrities such as Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan for the Centre’s move, who hailed demonetisation as a great effort to end the menace of black money. It goes on to say people kept their faith in the government and stood in the queue outside the banks and ATMs, just when they thought its over, the GST arrived. The song calls it “Golu Maalu Globalisation.”

Going by the Demonetization Anthem, Thatrom Thookrom seems like a politically relevant film. The film, directed by Arul Suriakannu, is said to follow three orphan boys, who have a smart politician on their tail.
