Coolie Box Office Collection Day 10: After witnessing a steady drop in its daily earnings during the weekdays, director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s action drama Coolie, led by “Superstar” Rajinikanth, recorded a tremendous spike in its collection, achieving revenue in double digits for the first time in four days. With this, the movie’s domestic collection has reached closer to the Rs 250 crore mark, which it is likely to surpass on Sunday. However, compared to movies like Leo (2023), Jailer (2023), and 2.0 (2018), which rank above Coolie in the list of the highest-grossing Tamil movies of all time, the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial’s second Saturday performance is not up to the mark, hinting that it is unlikely to outdo any of these blockbusters.

On Saturday, Coolie recorded an India nett collection of Rs 11.51 crore, taking its domestic total to Rs 247.01 crore, according to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk. This marked a 96.75 per cent increase in daily earnings compared to the amount Coolie raked in on Friday (Rs 5.85 crore). While the Tamil edition minted Rs 7.5 crore on Saturday, the Hindi version registered Rs 2.22 crore, and the Telugu one earned Rs 1.79 crore. Its box office rival, director Ayan Mukerji’s Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr-starrer War 2, managed to earn only Rs 6.2 crore on the same day, taking its total to Rs 214.45 crore.

During the day, Coolie recorded an overall occupancy of 35.44 per cent in the Tamil market. Although the movie began its run with a low 19.05 per cent occupancy during the morning shows, the rate improved significantly as the day progressed. While it registered 33.94 per cent occupancy during the afternoon shows, the figure rose to 41 per cent and 47.76 per cent during the evening and night screenings, respectively. Coolie’s worldwide gross currently stands at Rs 447.5 crore, while War 2 trails behind at Rs 320 crore.

Although the Rajinikanth-starrer has been performing significantly better than the latest instalment in the YRF Spy Universe, it’s evident that the average-to-poor reviews it received have affected its lofty ambitions. While Coolie now ranks as the fourth-highest-grossing Tamil movie of all time, its performance on Saturday underscores that the movie might not be able to dethrone any of the titles above it on the list. In contrast to Coolie’s Rs 11.51 crore, Jailer had raked in Rs 16.5 crore on its second Saturday in theatres, while Leo earned Rs 15 crore, and 2.0 registered Rs 18 crore. Even as Jailer completed its theatrical run with a worldwide gross of Rs 604.5 crore, Leo recorded Rs 605.9 crore, and 2.0 reached Rs 691 crore.
