Coolie Box Office Collection Day 2: Director Lokesh Kanagaraj would be extremely pleased with the collections of his new film, Coolie. The film became Rajinikanth’s most successful opening in a career spanning 50 years, and now it has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in just two days. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film’s India net collection has grown to Rs 118 crore, and all signs point to a massive opening weekend. If the film follows its current trajectory, it could very well surpass the Superstar’s last film, Vettaiyan’s lifetime earnings.

Directed by TJ Gnanavel, Vettaiyan made Rs 146.89 crore during its entire theatrical run, and Coolie is just Rs 26 crore shy of hitting that mark, which it will on its third day of release. Slowly but surely, the Superstar will be able to knock off one film after another, such as the Ajith-starrer Good Bad Ugly (180 cr), and it will soon surpass another Pan-India film, the Mohanlal-Prithiviraj Sukumaran starrer L2 Empuraan. Rajinikanth’s last blockbuster hit was Nelson Dilipkumar’s Jailer, which crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in a commendable three days.

The worldwide collection of Coolie had grown to Rs 170 crore on its very first day, and the film has already crossed the Rs 200 crore mark with the second day’s revenue in India. Coolie could realistically pass the Rs 300 crore mark by today. The occupancy rates remained promising throughout the day, with the morning and afternoon shows coming in at 63.86% and 86.25%, while the evening and night shows registered 86.37% and 86.33% occupancy rates, respectively. Coolie had the most number of shows in Chennai and Bengaluru, 721 and 752, respectively, and the movie had an occupancy rate of over 80% in both those cities, with the Chennai numbers going as high as 96.50%.

Without a doubt, Coolie is heading towards a big opening weekend, and it is achieving these numbers while competing with another big film playing alongside it: Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2. Bogged down by poor reviews, War 2 is still managing to hold on and is just Rs 10 crore shy of Coolie’s India net collection. Directed by Kanagaraj, the cast of Coolie includes Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Aamir Khan, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, and Sathyaraj.
