AR Murugadoss revealed what he had been up to for the past two years, including his film with animals and children in the lead.

After a long break, the director is actively out promoting his upcoming production venture, August 16 1947, which is set to be released on April 7. While talking to Galatta Plus, AR Murugadoss finally revealed what he has been up to in the past two years.
A rumour was making the rounds that AR Murugadoss was angry with film stars since no one came to his help during the hard times, and that’s why he decided to make a film featuring only animals. When asked about the same in a media interaction, the director dismissed it as a rumour. However, he confirmed that he is working on a film with animals and a bunch of kids as the lead characters.
Now, in a recent interview, AR Murugadoss shared more details about the project. The director had written the script for the fantasy film even before his debut venture Dheena (2001). The director wrote a script with a monkey as the lead and only after finishing it he realised that there were a lot of restrictions to shooting films with animals. “The culture of the circus has disappeared, and while I was figuring out what to do with the script, I got the chance to direct Dheena.”
Invariably, the director put his dream project on hold, and it was finally revived during the pandemic when Murugadoss decided to make the film with CGI and visual effects. “Over the years, I kept on wondering how to do this film, and finally, I connected with a company called Double Negative, which has worked in Avengers. They have received multiple Oscar awards for special effects. So, I narrated the story to them and they were super happy. We were doing pre-production for the film for the past two years over Zoom calls (during the pandemic).”
However, the lockdown and the series of flops in Bollywood made the special effects company put the project on hold. “There is a hero role in the film, which has a runtime of about 20 mins. I narrated the story to Akshay Kumar sir and he said he will do it without a fee. He wanted a profit-share sort of deal instead. Now, it is still in pre-production. I will definitely do it one day. That’s my dream project.”
Murugadoss is currently in talks with Sivakarthikeyan for a film, but he is yet to officially confirm the film.
