Ajith urges people to stop chanting the viral ‘Kadavuley Ajithey’ slogan: ‘I am uncomfortable with superlatives of any kind’

Ajith Kumar has asked his fans to stop chanting the viral 'Kadavuley Ajithey' slogan because he isn't a fan of any prefix being attached to his name.

Ajith Kumar, one of the most enigmatic stars of Indian cinema, loves keeping a low profile. Despite his superstardom, Ajith never attends his film promotions, never meets the press, never doles out interviews, and is hardly part of any cinema-related public event. However, he continues to command a loyal fan following that ensures his movies open to packed houses. But this absence doesn’t always mean he is cut off from what is happening around him. Apart from his racing career-related announcements, Ajith also addresses his fans directly via statements. One such statement was released today that has become a major point of discussion on social media.

Over the past few months, there has been a particular sing-song chant that has been frequently used in public places, including music concerts, movie theatres, restaurants, and even religious places. Interestingly enough, the chant’s origins have been traced to a roadside restaurant in Tamil Nadu where a few people cheered for Ajith saying, “Kadavuley… Ajithey (God… Ajith),” to the background score of a chef making kothu parotta. Since then, the chant has taken multiple iterations, and has become a ‘fun’ activity that often also crosses the limits to turn into public nuisance.

While there are no doubts that this is used as a harmless chant by many, there are sections where it can be misconstrued as unnecessary and infringing on the peace of a place. For instance, many took offence to this slogan being shouted in theatres when there is a silent moment. These activities became viral on social media encouraging more people to hop on this trend, and give their own spin to the same. Most recently, in an Anirudh Ravichander concert, when the composer played his theme music from Ajith’s upcoming film, Vidaamuyarchi, fans interspersed it with the now-viral chant.

Earlier, Ajith had to intervene when fans took the whole ‘Valimai update’ — a viral trend asking for any update about Valimai, Ajith’s film with H Vinoth — to a different level, even asking the likes of England cricketer Moeen Ali during an IPL match involving Chennai Super Kings. He put out a statement asking people to exercise restraint and not indulge in these activities. Later, in another statement, the actor, who was fondly referred to as ‘Thala’, asked fans to stop referring to him with that moniker. He urged them to call him by his name or just his initials, AK.

And now, the actor is back with another statement that asks them to stop chanting the slogan “Kadavuley Ajithey”. He wrote, “Of late, a certain factor has been disturbing me and in particular, the slogan, ‘K……..’, Ajithey’ has been publicly recited on various events and public gatherings. I am uncomfortable with superlatives or any kind of prefix mentioned alongside my name. I prefer being addressed by my name or my initials.”

Here’s the statement:

He requested all to stop shouting this slogan in public places with immediate effect. “My sincere request to everyone is to Work Hard, Play hard without hurting anyone, look after your respective families, and be law-abiding citizens.” Ajith ended the statement with his usual ‘Live and let live’.
