Chethuang deals with filial attraction
The unique jhum or shifting cultivation of Tripura is the focus of a new film Chethuang in Kokborok, the language spoken in that area. Directed by Kamal Koloi, the film brings to life the customs, heritage and folklore of the Kokborok-speaking population.
Speaking about his film, the director said that it was the story of a beautiful village in Tripura and a Jumia family residing there whose peaceful life is shattered by the revelation that the brother was attracted to his sister.
“The shocked girl in protest became a part of the tree, symbolising her freedom,” Koloi said adding that the surroundings, streams and hillocks of the area were extensively projected.
Roseline Debbarma enacts the role of the girl in the film presented by Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.
