Even before its release, writer Chetan Bhagat’s next book, Half Girlfriend, has already been picked up for a film adaptation. The emotional love story about a character named Madhav will be showcased on the big screen and the project will be helmed by Mohit Suri.
Speaking about the collaboration, Bhagat mentioned, “I am delighted to work with Mohit, who I personally, believe is one of the most-sought after directors in the industry. It’s an honour that he chose my project over so many other scripts that were offered to him. I am sure the project will shape up perfectly under him.”
The story of the book (and later, the film) will revolve around Madhav, a middle-class Bihari boy, who falls in love with an affluent English speaking girl, Riya, who agrees to become Madhav’s Half Girlfriend, as she doesn’t want her relationship with him to go beyond friendship. While the cast and other details will be locked soon, the film will take off in 2015, only after Suri completes work on his prior commitments – Hamari Adhuri Kahaani and the remake of Hollywood film, Intouchables.Meanwhile, Bhagat’s book is scheduled to hit the stands in October this year.
