UI ‘warner’ out: Upendra brings to life a dystopian tale of anarchy and humanity’s dangerous attachment to labels
In the 'warner' of UI, actor-filmmaker Upendra builds a dystopian world set in 2040 where anarchy is everything, and people are brainwashed to never look at the bigger picture

Nine years after helming Uppi 2, the actor-filmmaker Upendra is back on the director’s saddle for UI. Upendra’s fixation for ‘You” and ‘I’ has been seen in his films Upendra and Uppi 2, and interestingly, it continues with his latest film. While Upendra kept the plot and the characters under wraps during the production, the makers have now released a video that provides an idea of what he has been cooking all this while. Calling it a ‘Warner’, the video is definitely a warning of sorts that reflects the theme of the film.
UI is set in a dystopian world in 2040 ravaged by COVID-19, AI, global warming, social media and wars. People are living in penury and are stuck to unnecessary labels like caste without realising they are brainwashed by the powers that be to continue their existence without being bothered by more important things. The film suggests it will be a scathing social commentary on people missing the bigger picture, and being hoodwinked into believing all is well. We see the glimpses of what makes Upendra a truly singular voice with a unique style.
