Over the years, much has been written and spoken about the highly publicised fall-out and the subsequent feud between Taylor Swift and music producer Scooter Braun’s fall-out, reported Variety. Now their long-running feud is set to be made into a new docuseries, produced by Warner Bros Discovery UK and Ireland. To be called Taylor Swift vs Scooter Braun: Bad Blood, the two-part documentary is part of the studio’s ‘UK’s vs’ series, which includes Johnny vs. Amber, and Kim vs. Kanye: The Divorce.
The series will highlight the rift between Taylor and Scooter after the music company, Big Machine Records, purchased the rights to her first six albums in a $300 million deal in June 2019. The American singer-songwriter entered into a dispute with the music mogul and its founder Scott Borchetta as well as its new owner Scooter Braun, over the ownership of the masters of her first six studio albums — Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version), Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), and 1989 (Taylor’s Version).
The episodes will deeply dive into both sides of the argument and explore the singer’s side that the sale was conducted without consulting her and that she has since been blocked from buying back her masters. The other examines Scooter’s allegations that Taylor refused to negotiate and instead incited a public feud by pitting her fan base against him, read a logline published in Variety.
“Taylor Swift’s dispute with Scooter Braun over the ownership of her music exploded into the mainstream, taking contract law from boardroom to social media and into public interest. It’s a high-profile, high-interest story that opened debate on fandom and dominated headlines, one which will resonate with our viewers who are highly engaged with access-led documentaries like ‘vs’, which continues to be a popular format on Discovery+.” said Charlotte Reid, VP of commissioning for WBD U.K.’s networks and streaming.
The makers claim that the docuseries is a comprehensive masterclass on music rights and will speak about gender dynamics in the music industry. They will feature legal experts, journalists and supporters of both Taylor and Braun.
In November 2018, Swift signed a record deal with Republic Records after her Big Machine contract expired. The documentary is set to air in the U.K. and Ireland on Discovery+ in June. While Matt Reid will serve as the executive producer for Warner Bros, Nick Hornby and Sarah Eglin executively produce for Optomen TV.
