‘Don’t know about Jennifer Lopez, but…’: Chanel store that refused JLo has history of ‘rude’ staff and ‘unwelcoming’ vibe
After Jennifer Lopez was denied entry to a Chanel store in Istanbul, Bethenny Frankel chimed in, sharing her own Chanel snub story.

Jennifer Lopez was recently denied entry to a high-end luxury store in Istanbul, after which the diva walked away calmly, without making a scene. The incident has since sparked debate online, especially as the Chanel store in question is already riddled with bad reviews and negative feedback. When Bethenny Frankel heard about Lopez’s experience, The Real Housewives of New York City alum shared one of her own encounters, decsribing where the real problem lies.
Bethenny Frankel on Jennifer Lopez’s Chanel experience
Earlier, Lopez, who is currently touring Turkey as part of her Up All Night summer tour, decided to stop by the Chanel store in Istinye Park. The place is one of the city’s high-end shopping malls. However, when she tried to walk in, a security guard stopped her at the door, saying the store was “at full capacity” and she’d have to leave. Eyewitnesses told Page Six that the singer didn’t react, just said, “OK, no problem,” and walked away. Local media later reported that when staff inside realised who she was, they tried to get her to come back in, but she declined. Instead, she flocked to other luxury stores nearby, dropping tens of thousands at Celine and Beymen.
Going by the users review, this isn’t the first time the Istanbul Chanel boutique has sparked backlash. The store has a lousy 2.9/5 rating on Google, with years’ worth of complaints about “unwelcoming” vibe. From “rude staff” to “unprofessional behaviour,” many reviews say the team at the door ruins the entire experience. Customers have called them disrespectful, hostile, and even aggressive, with some saying they were denied entry despite clearly being there to spend big money. “The difference between the excellent service inside and this poor treatment at the entrance is truly disappointing. This is an unacceptable situation for a brand at this level,” one customer wrote. Another said, “The security team was a complete disappointment. Their attitude was rude and unwelcoming, treating customers with suspicion rather than respect even those. clearly there to.” One more added, “I had an incident with one of the male employees — when I asked him about the price including tax, he raised his voice and said, ‘I am not serving you.’

Bethenny Frankel weighed in on Lopez’s run-in and shared one of her own. While hers wasn’t in Istanbul, the reality TV star once tried to enter a Chanel store without an appointment and was turned away. She admitted she “looked like an absolute train wreck” that day, so staff might not have recognised her, but she still felt the treatment was unnecessary. Speaking on TikTok, Bethenny noted that J.Lo probably looked stunning and the guard may not have known she was a superstar, or maybe the store really was full. “I don’t know if we heard about how the person at the door was, meaning if they were kind, then that tracks. They probably didn’t know who she was.” The Skinnygirl founder added, “I don’t think Chanel should change policies for public people. I think they should change policies about the elitism and the way they treat someone daring to enter their kingdom, making them feel inferior.” She finished with, “I have no idea how the person at the door treated Jennifer Lopez, but therein lies the actual issue.”
So far, JLo has not commented on the incident. The Jenny From the Block singer is currently on her first tour in six years. Last year, she cancelled her LA residency, reportedly over soft ticket sales. Currently, Up All Night: Live in 2025 has 21 shows across the Middle East and Europe. The tour started in Spain and will conclude in Italy. The singer is also working on her post-divorce album and looking for a new label after parting ways with her old one.
