Rapper, producer and songwriter from the wildly popular K-Pop band BTS, Suga, who is currently on a world tour promoting his latest album D-Day, recently opened up about why he has been so happy lately.

Suga, who had previously spoken about his mental health battles with depression, said that seeing his fans, popularly called ARMY, made him happy: “When I was on stage, I saw everyone’s face and it made me very happy. It made me realize that’s the reason I’m alive,” Suga said in Korean, which was translated by an on-stage translator who is travelling with the musician.

Earlier, in 2021, Suga had revealed during an interview that his depression comes and goes in cycles, adding, “I’m comfortable now and feeling good, but those sorts of negative emotions come and go. So it’s almost like cold weather. It may come back in a cycle over a year, year and a half. It’s very encouraging. I think, for anybody, these emotions are not something that need to be hidden. They need to be discussed and expressed. Whatever emotions that I may be feeling, I’m always ready to express them now, as I was before.”

Suga’s new song Amygdala is a track from D-Day that expresses such emotions with brevity and sensitivity. In the song, Suga sings of his past accidents, family’s misfortune and the effect it ended up having on him. Even as Suga is touring, both J-Hope and Jin are serving their mandatory military training. RM also released a new single and is preparing for his turn to join military.
