Thudarum box office collection Day 8Thudarum box office collection day 1: It is very rare that a superstar like Mohanlal’s film has a very lowkey release. It is even more rare to see it happen right after he delivers the biggest blockbuster of Malayalam cinema. But then, that is the way Malayalam cinema works, and it has bode well for Mohanlal’s latest release, Thudarum, directed by Tharun Moorthy. Despite a lot of interesting aspects in the film, the makers decided to let the movie do all the talking, and that’s what Thudarum did by opening at a whopping Rs 5.5 crore on Day 1, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.
This is the second biggest opening for a Malayalam film this year after Prithviraj Sukumaran-Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan made Rs 18.6 crore on Day 1. Interestingly, this film, which faced multiple delays in release, has done better than the recent Vishu releases, including Mammootty’s Bazooka, the crowd-favourite Alappuzha Gymkhana, and the first hit of the year, Rekhachithram, which opened to Rs 3.2 crore, Rs 2.65 crore, and Rs 1.9 crore, respectively.
The highlight of the opening day numbers for Thudarum was the 62.27 % occupancy with the evening and night shows garnering an impressive 68.25 % and 84 %, respectively. In fact, the occupancy of the night shows in cities like Kochi, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Kollam, Kottayam, and Alappuzha ranged from 95% to 99%.

With positive reviews from critics, and audience praising Thudarum for being a film that gives them their ‘vintage Mohanlal,’ Thudarum is expected to grow over the weekend.
In fact, after the first-day responses to Thudarum, Mohanlal wrote, “I’m deeply moved and truly humbled by the love and heartfelt response for #Thudarum. Each message and every word of appreciation has touched me in ways I can’t fully express. Thank you for opening your hearts to this story, for seeing its soul, and for embracing it with such grace. This gratitude is not mine alone. It belongs to every single person who walked this journey with me, giving their love, effort, and spirit to every frame. To Renjith M, Tharun Moorthy, KR Sunil, Shobhana, Binu Pappu, Prakash Varma, Shaji Kumar, Jakes Bejoy and our extraordinary team — your artistry and passion made Thudarum what it is. This film was made with care, with purpose, and above all, with truth. To see it resonate so deeply is more than a reward. It is a true blessing. With all my heart, thank you. With love and gratitude, Always.”
Thudarum marked the reunion of Mohanlal and Shobana for the first time since Mambazhakaalam (2004), and revolves around a family man, whose life turns upside down when his beloved car gets entangled in a legal turmoil. The film also stars Prakash Varma, in a revelatory role, Binu Pappu, Farhaan Faasil, Thomas Mathew, and Bharathiraja. Backed by M Renjith, Thudarum marks the third film of Tharun after the critical and commercial success of Operation Java, and Saudi Vellakka.
