Prithviraj Sukumaran’s next with Vipin Das titled Santhosh Trophy

Although the film is named after the legendary National football tournament, there has been no official confirmation if the Prithviraj-starrer is in the sports genre.

Director Vipin Das’ Guruvayoorambala Nadayil, headlined by Prithviraj Sukumaran, Basil Joseph, Nikhila Vimal and Anaswara Rajan, is clearly one of the bonafide successes of Malayalam cinema in 2024. The filmmaker, who also backed another superhit, Vaazha, is set to reunite with Prithviraj for his next directorial venture. On the occasion of the actor’s birthday, the makers revealed the title of the project to be Santhosh Trophy. Although the movie is named after the legendary National football tournament, there has been no official confirmation if the film is in the sports genre, or it is just a play on the iconic name.

It is expected that Prithviraj might play the titular character of Santhosh as the caption of the social media post announcing the film read, “Get ready to meet Santhosh as he chases his dream trophy on his next birthday!” Does this mean that Santhosh Trophy will hit the screens on October 16, 2025? Or is it just a random caption?

Backed by long-time collaborators Listin Stephen’s Magic Frames in association with Supriya Menon for Prithviraj Productions, Santhosh Trophy marks their fifth project together after Driving License (2019), Jana Gana Mana (2022), Kaduva (2022), and Gold (2022).

Apart from Santhosh Trophy, Vilayath Buddha, Tyson and the ambitious Salaar 2, Prithviraj would also be working with Rorshach director Nissam Basheer and Meppadiyan director Vishnu Mohan in their upcoming films. Makers of two other films — Kaaliyan and Khalifa — shared a celebratory poster on the occasion of Prithviraj’s birthday.

While Kaaliyan is set to be helmed by Mahesh S, Khalifa will reunite Prithviraj with his Pokkiri Raja director Vysakh. On the directorial front, Prithviraj is currently helming Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan, the sequel to his blockbuster debut, Lucifer (2019).
