‘Films are not made for juries’: Prithviraj Sukumaran on Aadujeevitham snub at National Film Awards 2025
Prithviraj Sukumaran has finally reacted to the National Film Awards 2025 snub for his film The Goat Life, maintaining that he values audience reception over any other honours.

Despite his performance and the movie as a whole opening to widespread acclaim, both Prithviraj Sukumaran and Aadujeevitham: The Goat Life were snubbed at the recent National Film Awards, much to the shock of moviegoers across the country. Although the Blessy directorial clinched nine trophies, including Best Actor, at the 54th Kerala State Film Awards, the survival drama did not receive a single honour at the 71st National Film Awards. In contrast, even the severely criticised and controversial film The Kerala Story won two awards, sparking a controversy.
Soon after the announcement of the winners, several industry bigwigs — including legendary actor Urvashi, who won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Ullozhukku — stepped forward to share their discontent at Aadujeevitham and Prithviraj being completely neglected. Director Blessy also reacted, expressing shock at central jury chairperson Ashutosh Gowariker’s disregard for his movie, despite having praised it previously.
Prithviraj himself has now spoken out on the controversy, maintaining that he values audience reception over any awards. “A film is not made for ten people to sit and grade it or for a jury to judge. Nor is it created only for international festivals, though those are certainly valuable. But at the end of the day, movies are made for the audience – for people who buy a ticket, come to theatres, and enjoy the experience. In that sense, the viewers have already given Aadujeevitham its biggest award. For that, I am grateful,” he said at a public event in Sharjah, Onmanorama reported.

It features music by Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman, cinematography by Sunil KS, and editing by A Sreekar Prasad.
