With over 400 films in his repertoire and numerous awards, including two National Film Awards for Best Actor and the Padma Bhushan, Mohanlal is regarded as one of Indian cinema’s finest talents. Known for his performances in films that have become enduring classics, he has also achieved iconic status in Malayalam cinema, starring in several blockbusters. However, like any other actor, Mohanlal too has encountered failures and been part of some subpar projects.

His wife Suchitra, daughter of renowned Tamil film producer K Balaji, recently admitted that she doesn’t admire all of her husband’s works and is always frank with him about her opinions on his films and performances. “If I don’t like a film, I say it. There are several films of his that I just couldn’t digest,” Suchitra confessed during a recent chat with Rekha Menon, Mathrubhumi reported

Nonetheless, she emphasised her appreciation for the collaborative nature of making a film, recognising that it’s a team effort beyond just one person’s choices. “A film is the result of a lot of people’s hard work. No one makes a movie with the intention of it being bad,” she said.

Suchitra also clarified that, despite her personal opinions, she respects the collective effort behind each film. “It’s not just my opinion that matters; filmmaking is a collaborative process. Everyone involved works hard, and no one ever sets out to make a bad movie,” she explained. Mohanlal tied the knot with Suchitra in 1988 and they have two children — actor Pranav and Vismaya.

Mohanlal, who was last seen in director Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Malaikottai Vaaliban, is now gearing up for the release of his upcoming movie Thudarum, helmed by Tharun Moorthy, known for directing the drama film Saudi Vellakka, which bagged the Best Malayalam Feature Film trophy at the 70th National Film Awards. The filming of Thudarum was wrapped up recently. Mohanlal is also busy with the post-production works of the children’s fantasy film Barroz, which marks his debut as a filmmaker.
