Jude Anthany Joseph’s 2018 becomes fastest Malayalam film to enter Rs 100-crore club
The makers of 2018 – Everyone Is A Hero have formally announced that the film has amassed over Rs 100 crore in global box office earnings in just 10 days after its release.

Several weeks after various Malayalam film organisations raised complaints regarding the poor box office performance of movies, the recently released 2018 – Everyone Is A Hero has come as a ray of hope for the industry. The movie continues to pull in a significant number of viewers to cinema halls on a daily basis, including weekdays, giving the industry a much-needed respite.
As images of “houseful” boards adorning theatres screening 2018 are already making the rounds on social media platforms, the film’s makers have formally announced that 2018 has amassed over Rs 100 crore in global box office earnings in just 10 days after its release. This remarkable achievement has positioned it as the first Malayalam film to join the esteemed Rs 100-crore club.
Taking to social media, Kavya Film Company, one of the firms that co-produced the film, said: “We are extremely proud and thankful to all our audiences for watching and supporting us to achieve this milestone. Apart from the collection figures, it’s your warmth and love that keeps us moving.. THANK YOU ALL ❤️,” while posting a poster of the film that mentioned: “Fastest 100 crore film ever in Malayalam”.
Using a similar poster as a medium, the film’s director Jude Anthany Joseph opted for brevity by expressing his emotions through just two emojis: “❤️🙏🏻”.
Reports say that the honour of achieving this milestone was previously held by the 2019 political action thriller film Lucifer, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran.
It may be mentioned here that Romancham (Dir. Jithu Madhavan) was the only other Malayalam film that had a successful theatrical run this year.
According to a report by Manorama Online, the only other Malayalam films in the Rs 100-crore club are Lucifer, Pulimurugan (2016, Dir. Vysakh), Bheeshma Parvam (2022, Amal Neerad), Kurup (2021, Dir. Srinath Rajendran), Madhura Raja (2019, Dir. Vysakh), Mamangam (2019, Dir. M Padmakumar), and Kayamkulam Kochunni (2018, Dir. Rosshan Andrrews).
Starring Tovino Thomas, Indrans, Kunchacko Boban, Aparna Balamurali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Asif Ali, Lal, Narain, Tanvi Ram, Sshivada, Kalaiyarasan, Aju Varghese, Siddique, Joy Mathew, Sudheesh, the film’s technical crew comprises Mohan Das (art), Akhil George (cinematography), Chaman Chacko (editing), Nobin Paul (music) and Vishnu Govind (audiography).
In its review of the film, The Indian Express had mentioned that the film was a homage to all those who banded together during the Kerala floods and helped each other, while also being “The Kerala story” that fanatics and their bot squads don’t want people to know.
