Jeethu Joseph reflects on Lokah’s success, cautions against blindly following superhero trend: ‘People should not take away wrong lessons from the film’
In a recent media interaction, Jeethu Joseph reflected on the success of Kalyani Priyadarshan’s blockbuster superhero film Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra and cautioned against following fleeting trends in cinema.

Jeethu Joseph is busy promoting his latest release Mirage, starring Asif Ali and Aparna Balamurali in the lead roles. In a recent media interaction, the director reflected on the success of Kalyani Priyadarshan’s blockbuster superhero film Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra and cautioned against following fleeting trends in cinema.
Jeethu shared the success of Lokah marks a momentous occasion for Malayalam cinema, while cautioning filmmakers against being drawn into the superhero genre as a mere trend. “Now Lokah has created history at the box office. My only problem is that people should not take away the wrong lessons from that film’s success. Now, everyone should not blindly set out to do only superhero films. They have already made that film. We don’t want people following successful templates and making only superhero moves back to back now. There should be all kinds of films. “
Jeethu Joseph also shared his feelings on how the industry should be open to experimenting with different scripts and not stick to one genre. “If you are a filmmaker and have a story idea for a drama or a comedy, you should be able to make it entertaining as a film; that’s all that matters at the end of the day. As audience members, what you are looking for in a film is to be entertained, right? If the director works on the script and makes it engaging, I am of the firm belief that all kinds of films will work big time.”
In an earlier interview with Baradwaj Rangan, Jeethu Joseph confirmed that he will begin shooting Drishyam 3, the highly anticipated third installment of the franchise, in October. The film will see Mohanlal and Meena reprise their roles from the first two parts. Jeethu also has another project lined up: the cop drama Valathu Vashathe Kallan, starring Biju Menon and Joju George, which is slated for release toward the end of this year.
