Empuraan Box Office Collection Day 2: Despite the controversies surrounding the content of Mohanlal’s latest, L2: Empuraan, the sequel to the celebrated 2019 blockbuster, Lucifer, it opened to strong numbers on Thursday. The movie built upon this momentum on its second day of release. On Friday, Aashirvad Cinemas, the makers of Empuraan, shared that the film has entered the Rs 100 crore club.

In a post, the makers wrote, “The Cicada himself. Empuraan surpasses 100 crore at the box office worldwide in less than 48 hours, setting new benchmarks in cinematic history. A heartfelt thanks to all of you for being part of this extraordinary success! Your love and support made this possible.” This achievement has made it the fastest Malayalam movie to enter the club, which has entrants like Manjummel Boys, Lucifer, Premalu, Puli Murugan, Aadujeevitham, and 2018.

Interestingly, Empuraan had the biggest opening in Malayalam cinema history, earning Rs 22 crore nett in India on day one. The bulk of the money came from the Malayalam version. On Day 2, the film faced an almost 44% fall and made Rs 11.75 crore. Just like Day 1, it was Malayalam version of Empuraan that contributed the most with Rs 10.75 crore, with the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi versions making the remaining Rs 1 crore. With Empuraan making Rs 19 crore on Day 1 with its Malayalam version, the film became the highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2025 in Kerala, beating Rekhachitram, the second-best opener with Rs 1.9 crore. It is also just a few lakhs shy of becoming the highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2025, and pushing Officer on Duty to the second place.

Just like how Lucifer opened up newer markets for Malayalam cinema, Empuraan also created multiple records due to its humongous opening overseas. The film created new records in countries like UK, New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the USA. It was a solid response to the film in the overseas markets as the Malayalam film made more money in the global box office when compared to the domestic market.

Nevertheless, Empuraan created a record in the domestic market too, delivering the biggest-ever opening in Kerala. The record was previously held by Vijay’s Leo. Apart from Mohanlal, Prithviraj’s third directorial Empuraan stars Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Nyla Usha, Baiju, Abhimanyu Singh, and Nikhat Khan.
