Sajid Yahiya announces film based on rogue elephant Arikomban’s life; shooting to begin in October
The primary shooting location for the film will be in Sigiriya, Sri Lanka, while some parts of the movie will be filmed in Chinnakanal, Idukki.

Days after rogue tusker Arikomban, who had been terrorising high-range villages in Kerala’s Idukki district for the last five years, was captured and released into the deep interiors of Periyar Tiger Reserve, actor-turned-director Sajid Yahiya announced that his next directorial venture would be based on the elephant’s life.
“A fight for the justice of a creature who was evicted! Arikomban’s story is the latest example of how a society, which can’t take kindly to the problems of its fellow creatures as cities and settlements grow, pushes them out,” Yahiya noted on his Facebook account while sharing the first look poster of the film.
The makers have announced that filming for Arikomban will commence this year in October. The primary shooting location for the film will be in Sigiriya, Sri Lanka, while some parts of the movie will be filmed in Chinnakanal, Idukki. The film comes with a tagline, “The most powerful force on Earth is justice,” and will narrate the eventful story of the tusker who lost his mother at the age of two, the makers said.
Produced under the banner of Badusha Cinemas and Pen and Paper Creations, Arikomban’s script will be penned by Suhail M Koya.
“The pre-production work of the movie has begun. The script is almost done. The story of a few other elephants is also being documented as part of the film. A team has been assigned for this purpose. Its works are in progress. Arikomban will arrive as a proper movie. We just witnessed how a film like 2018 got a lot of acceptance. The impact of showing an event we know is huge. We are working towards that,” Yahiya said.
A bull elephant notorious for breaking into homes and ration shops to steal rice which earned him the moniker of ‘Arikomban’, the tusker was radio-collared and released into the deep interiors of Periyar Tiger Reserve on April 30.
