Days after giving stage to Mukesh and Baburaj, accused in sexual assault cases, AMMA backs Honey Rose’s harassment complaint
During the recent AMMA Kudumba Sangamam 2025, actors Mukesh and Baburaj, both facing accusations in sexual assault cases, were given prominence on stage.

(Images: Facebook)Days after the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) organised a family gathering event, AMMA Kudumba Sangamam 2025, during which actors Mukesh and Baburaj — both facing accusations in separate sexual assault cases — were given prominence on stage, the organisation has now extended support to actor Honey Rose, who filed a complaint against “the insult to womanhood.”
The association’s ad hoc committee, which was formed following the mass resignation of its office bearers, including president Mohanlal, in response to the findings of the Justice Hema Committee and multiple sexual misconduct allegations against male industry insiders, has declared its full support for Rose’s legal fight.
“We condemn the deliberate attempts by some to defame our member and prominent Malayalam actor Honey Rose through social media and thus ridicule her womanhood and her profession. Furthermore, the organisation hereby expresses its unwavering support for the legal proceedings initiated by Honey Rose in this case and affirms its readiness to provide legal assistance if necessary,” the ad hoc committee said in a statement issued to the media.
Incidentally, the organisation’s statement comes two days after its AMMA Kudumba Sangamam 2025, which seemed like an attempt at damage control but controversially gave a platform to actor-legislator M Mukesh, accused of rape by a young woman actor, and actor-filmmaker Baburaj, who faces allegations of sexually assaulting a junior artiste in 2019. Baburaj served as joint secretary in the previous executive committee that resigned after the release of the Hema Committee report and is now part of the ad hoc committee.

During the event, Mukesh and Baburaj were seen sharing the stage with ad hoc panel chief and superstar Mohanlal, Malayalam megastar Mammootty and actor and BJP Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi. Mukesh, an MLA of the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), was also invited to address the gathering, further placing him in the spotlight.

In Mukesh’s case, Asianet News reported, a chargesheet has been filed in the Wadakkanchery court. The complaint alleges that he raped the survivor at a hotel in Thrissur’s Wadakkanchery during a film shoot. The investigation was conducted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT). Meanwhile, Baburaj was granted anticipatory bail by the Kerala High Court in November 2024 in connection with allegations of sexual harassment. According to The News Minute, a woman who worked at a resort owned by Baburaj accused him of rape and sexual harassment over a period spanning January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2019.
On Sunday, actor Honey Rose alleged in a social media post that a person, whose identity she chose not to reveal, had been making veiled derogatory remarks about her and persistently stalking her. After a number of people posted offensive comments below this post, Rose approached the police that night and lodged a formal complaint. Based on this plaint over sexual harassment through social media, the Kochi Central Police registered a case against 30 persons and arrested one among them named Shaji, a 60-year-old man hailing from Panangadu, news agency PTI reported. On Monday, the actor turned up at the central police station and gave her statement.
